June 26 , 2006 :: Carson Sworn in as New State Regent
Claremore resident Julie Carson, wife of former Oklahoma congressman Brad Carson, was recently sworn in as a member of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. She replaces Newkirk businessman Marlin “Ike” Glass Jr. who recently completed his nine-year term on the board. Carson’s term expires in May 2015.
Carson, who has a law degree from the University of Tulsa and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1998, is currently a stay-at-home mom. She began her business career at MCI WorldCom in Tulsa as manager of geographic expansion planning and staff attorney. Previously, she served as financial analyst for Superstar Satellite Entertainment, which later changed to TV Guide. She also served as treasurer for her husband’s congressional campaign.
Besides her involvement in politics, Carson has been active in a variety of community service activities, including serving on boards for the Claremore Public School Foundation, Tri-County Court-Appointed Special Advocates and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Rogers County. She has also served as a member of the Rogers State University Community Advisory Board and is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma.
A graduate of Jenks Public Schools, Carson attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and later graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
The Carsons, who currently live in Claremore, have one child, Jack David Carson.
