The Leadership, Education and Achievement Program (LEAP) is an exceptional program targeted toward those middle/junior high school students who exhibit the potential for both academic and leadership success. The objective of this program is to help prepare students to strive for achievement in these areas.
The LEAP curriculum is a powerful and compelling resource for students. It is instrumental in allowing them to develop leadership potential, prepare for further academic success, build positive relationships, serve in their communities, conduct research and observation, and improve their problem solving skills.
One of the primary focuses of the LEAP course is to ensure that students have a firm foundation that consists of leadership development and human relations skills. This foundation is established via the activities that are completed in:
The various components of the curriculum emphasize planning processes and goal setting methods to accomplish the end result of being accepted to a college or university and then pursuing career choices. The intent is to concentrate interests toward the teaching profession. LEAP creates advocates for education.
Not only is the scientifically researched LEAP curriculum provided by MTRC, but there is also a grant to fund course materials and other resources (e.g., transportation and substitute teachers when teachers need to attend MTRC training and meetings).
The Leadership, Education and Achievement Program is administered by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Minority Teacher Recruitment Center. For more information, please call 405.225.9143 or e-mail gthompson@osrhe.edu.
