The Academic Commitment to Education Program (ACE) is an exemplary program targeted to those students who possess high academic and leadership standards. These students are chosen to participate in this program that encourages them to consider teaching as a viable career. However, those who do not become educators evolve into strong advocates for teachers and proponents for education.
The ACE curriculum is a powerful educational tool that is designed to take academically successful students and propel them into a rigorous journey filled with exciting, new opportunities for development and growth. The course focuses upon aspects of the teaching profession from learning styles and diversity issues, to lesson planning and presentation skills. There are also activities for college preparation planning.
The ACE curriculum is divided into seven units:
The ACE curriculum allows hands-on practice for the students in the areas of teaching, observation, and professional portfolio development. One of the more fascinating aspects about the course is that ACE students conduct teaching-like experiences via internships within educational settings. The opportunities are priceless in that they provide ACE students with an overview of child development processes and exposure to various learning styles.
The Minority Teacher Recruitment Center provides the curriculum for this course and grant funding to purchase the needed materials for students.
The Academic Commitment to Education (ACE) Program is administered by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Minority Teacher Recruitment Center. For more information, please call 405.225.9143 or e-mail gthompson@osrhe.edu.
