Students and their parents can have personal, professional assistance in learning about financial aid and planning for college thanks to the upcoming television event “Cash for College.”
“Cash for College” will be televised live at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 25, on OETA. Experts will be in the studio to discuss the various aspects of financial aid. Viewers will be able to call toll-free and ask questions of student financial aid professionals from various Oklahoma colleges, universities, technology centers and professional schools.
During the one-hour, statewide telecast, discussions will include information on types of financial aid available, how to apply for financial aid, how to avoid common mistakes when filling out the financial aid application and much more.
Also, “Cash for College” will be broadcast live via the Internet. To watch the live-streaming webcast, viewers may go to www.ogslp.org/cfc/.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that “Cash for College” has appeared on OETA. Last year, the live call-in show was a resounding success with more than 500 telephone calls pouring into the studios.

Risser. “From teaching new parents how to save for college to guiding high school students and their parents through the financial aid application process, this program has valuable information for everyone.”
“Cash for College” is being produced by OETA in conjunction with the Oklahoma Guaranteed Student Loan Program (OGSLP), Oklahoma GEAR UP and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

The U.S. Department of Education awarded Oklahoma with a state GEAR UP grant totaling $20.5 million in August 1999. The grant has been matched by more than $25 million from state and partner resources. With the addition of year six federal funding, Oklahoma's GEAR UP program has received approximately $25 million in federal funds since 1999. GEAR UP receives 50 percent of total funding from the federal government and 50 percent from other organizations.
