Statewide College Preparation Efforts Celebrated During National GEAR UP Week
Sept. 10, 2012-- Gov. Mary Fallin has declared Sept. 10-14 as GEAR UP Week in Oklahoma. This event celebrates the ongoing, impactful work of Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), a college access program that provides students and their families with valuable resources to plan for college success. Since its inception in 1999, GEAR UP has helped improve educational outcomes for millions of low-income students across the U.S., including thousands of students in Oklahoma.
Education and Community Leaders Named to Oklahoma GEAR UP Advisory Board
July 11, 2012-- Several education and community leaders from across the state have been selected to serve on the Oklahoma GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) Advisory Board.
Hobart Public Schools Selected to Participate in National High Schools that Work Conference
July 3, 2012-- Hobart Public Schools is one of two school districts selected by Oklahoma GEAR UP, Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, to participate in the national High Schools That Work Staff Development Conference. The conference, Engaging Students Intellectually, Emotionally, Socially and Behaviorally in Learning, will be in New Orleans, LA, July 11-14.

Students Participate in Outdoor Science and Math Institutes at Redlands State College
June 15, 2012-- Students from Oklahoma GEAR UP's 24 school districts recently participated in the Exploring Natural Resources Summer Institute at Redlands State College in El Reno. The institute, provided by Oklahoma GEAR UP, provided students with an opportunity to improve math and science skills while using exciting exploratory technologies.

June 25, 2012-- Students from Oklahoma GEAR UP's 24 school districts recently participated in the Wilderness Adventure: Science = Education and Careers Summer Institute at Connors State College in Warner. The institute, provided by Oklahoma GEAR UP, provided students with an opportunity to improve math and science skills while using exciting exploratory technologies.
GEAR UP School Districts Participate in Leadership Training in Oklahoma City
June 22, 2012-- School administrators and teachers from the 24 Oklahoma GEAR UP School Districts recently spent six days in Oklahoma City to learn ways to better boost local college access efforts during the Leadership with Ongoing Guidance, Instruction and Curriculum (LOGIC) workshop. Developed and provided by Oklahoma GEAR UP, LOGIC is an intensive professional learning program that focuses on educational leadership, guidance and curriculum.
Oklahoma GEAR UP School Districts Named
Nov. 7, 2011-- Twenty-four school districts across the state have been named as Oklahoma GEAR UP School Districts, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education announced. Over the next seven years, the school districts will benefit from localized education services and activities that have been proven to help students better prepare for and succeed in college.
State Regents' GEAR UP Program Awards $449,638 to Oklahoma Schools
Jun. 27, 2011-- The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s GEAR UP program recently awarded $449,638 in College Access Subgrants to 29 school districts targeting 36 sites across the state to fund professional development for teachers so they can continue to strengthen learning opportunities and increase student achievement.
GEAR UP Offers Teachers and Students Free Outdoor Learning This Summer
Apr. 14, 2011-- Students and teachers from select GEAR UP schools can wade into investigative learning this summer as they explore Oklahoma’s fish, aquatic insects, reptiles, birds and amphibians by enrolling in one of the three, free Oklahoma GEAR UP 2011 Summer Institutes.
GEAR UP Incentive Grant Helps Raise College Aspiration, Preparation Levels in Tulsa
Jan. 11, 2011-- The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s GEAR UP program recently awarded a $70,000 subgrant to the Community Action Project of Tulsa County (CAP). The funds are helping students and families prepare for college through programs that provide access to financial aid, mentoring and tutoring services, college campus tours, individualized counseling and academic planning.
