It's never too early to start planning for college! This page is loaded with tips on preparing for college. Read on, young cyber-friends.
Do It Already!
- Take challenging classes in English, math, science, history, geography, the arts and a foreign language.
- It may not seem like it now, but time in school is short. Study hard.
- Know what classes you need to take in high school to be prepared for college. You can find these at the Student Center. Just click on the menu in the upper left of this page.
- If you have an idea of what-you-want-to-be-when-you-grow-up, take classes that would give you some insight into this career. For example, if you think you might want to be a photographer, take newspaper, broadcast production or photography as an elective. If those classes are not available from your school, many Oklahoma colleges offer summer programs that have these type of classes for students your age. Check with a college near you. The Student Center has a list of links to all the public colleges and universities in Oklahoma.
- Start saving for college if you and your family can.
- Check out sources of financial aid. The Student Center has a great list of potential sources for you.
- Get to know your school counselor for something other than schedule changes.
- Research different careers and find out what kind of education would best prepare you that career.
- Get involved. Join a school or community organization that interests you.
- Visit a college. Hopefully, you can do this live and in person, but if not, many colleges have virtual tours on their Web sites.
- Attend college and career fairs.
- Visit the Student Center on this Web site. The Student Center has lots of great information on Oklahoma colleges and universities, degree programs, the Online College of Oklahoma, college costs, financial aid, transfer students, adult students, career services and online resources. Just click on the menu in the upper left of this page.
