Durant Public Schools is continuing its partnership with Southeastern Oklahoma State University and First United Bank. They are using the $41,000 award for two subgrant projects: “Durant High School GEAR UP” and “Mentoring for the Future.”

Durant High School and Durant Middle School are implementing the Math Institute, CollegeEd and SREB’s Building and Leading Effective School Improvement Teams. In addition, both schools are using grant funds to implement orientation programs for their upcoming students.

The programs focus on involving parents in academic planning for students, encouraging students to stay motivated and helping students maintain a high level of success. Durant High School’s orientation program also includes drug and bullying awareness and character development.
