College Access Subgrants for K-12

Subgrants to Eligible K–12 School Districts
School districts that have not received funding from Phase I of Oklahoma GEAR UP are eligible to apply for a one-year subgrant for up to $25,000 to implement student academic intervention strategies as evidenced by student assessment data. GEAR UP will award 24 subgrants per year through 2010. GEAR UP trainer/coordinators will work closely with each school district awarded a subgrant to ensure that the early intervention strategies are effective and research-based.

Eligibility
To be eligible for these subgrants, the school district must not have received funding from Phase I Oklahoma GEAR UP activities, must have a districtwide free/reduced lunch rate of 50 percent or higher and must participate in the EPAS program. Please note: The eligibility list below is based on the Oklahoma State Department of Education's free and reduced lunch rate. The eligibility requirements to submit a college access subgrant are 50 percent free/reduced lunch rate and participation in EPAS. Eligibility will be based on the 2006 free/reduced lunch rate criteria. The list below may not reflect current eligibility. Proof of eligibility will be required upon submission of the subgrant application.

Application Process
To apply for a GEAR UP Phase II subgrant, the school district will be required to complete a grant application, which is available below. The submission deadline for applications is March 12, 2008. The grants will be awarded in 2008. Applicants may register for technical assistance workshops that will be offered with instructions on completing the grant application.
