Winter/Spring 2010 NIMS Training

Attention Postsecondary NIMS Points of Contact:

The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security would like to thank all who participated in the Goal 2010 kickoff and the subsequent Point of Contact (POC) workshops held this past fall. OHS is encouraged by the amount of support witnessed for this project and look forward to working with each institution's POC on individual implementation plans. If postsecondary institutions have yet to select a NIMS POC, please do so as soon as possible. A NIMS POC will help disseminate information from FEMA and the U.S. Department of Education to each institution and will be helpful in coordinating NIMS training and compliance activities. Institutions may send the name and e-mail address of the POCs to pking@dps.state.ok.us to be added to the distribution list.

OHS is pleased to announce that in winter/spring 2010, it will be conducting an ICS 200 course and a Basic NIMS Instructor Course at postsecondary institutions across the state. These courses are primarily for those individuals interested in teaching basic NIMS courses at their own institution, but they will also be available to local jurisdictions and NGOs if they are interested. OHS encourages postsecondary institutions and local jurisdictions to train and exercise together whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Individuals who have taken the ICS 200 class on FEMA’s Independent Study Web site (IS-200) and have a full understanding of basic ICS may opt out of attending one of the ICS 200-level courses listed below. Prerequisites for the NIMS Instructor course are IS 100a or 100HE, ICS 700 and ICS 200. See additional information at the bottom of this page for course and experience requirements.
