OCALD
Minutes of the May 16, 2000 meeting
State Regents' Conference Room, Oklahoma City

Beth Anne Freeman, chair, called the meeting to order. The minutes of the March 21, 2000 meeting were approved. Minutes of the April 27, 2000 were approved.

Wilbur Stolt reported on the three options provided to OCALD by Newsbank. Stolt requested each institution indicate their preference for the coming year.

Phil Moss reported on his meeting with the Electronic Media Committee of the Council on Instruction to discuss the OCALD proposed Guidelines on Distance Education. Phil will take their concerns and suggestions and incorporate them into the proposal document for another review. Phil will post the revised document to the discussion list.

Barbara Pickthorn announced that Karen Olive has been elected to the vacant At-Large member position on the Executive Board.

OK-Share statistics are due to Danelle Hall at OCU by August 1, 2000. All 5000 OK-Share cards from the initial run have been distributed. There will be some design modifications to the card prior to the second run.

Moss reported on legislative issues. UCITA has gone to conference committee and is not expected to come out of this committee this session. Moss was not optimistic about funding for higher education this session.

Freeman requested that each of us reply to the sender on specific questions posted to the discussion list rather than replying to the list.

Freeman announced that Gary Phillips, ODL, has accepted the position of director of a county library in Louisiana beginning June 1. She also announced with Beverly Jones and Wilbur Stolt leaving OCALD there would be their vacancies to fill on the OLTN Advisory Board.

Freeman announced the Executive Board will meet July 12 at Phil's office for a planning meeting. She suggested that the OCALD meetings be held the third Thursday of each month in 2000/2001 with the exception of August, which will be held August 24, 2000. If there are issues you think OCALD needs to address in the coming year, please notify Beth Anne.

Moss announced the ODLA conference will be held June 1-3 at the Myriad. There will be three sessions presented on OneNet and an update on Internet2.

Moss announced that his office has been moved to OneNet. His new telephone number is (405) 271-2244.

Beverly Jones and Wilbur Stolt were recognized for their service to Oklahoma libraries and OCALD. A reception followed.

The next OCALD meeting will be Thursday, August 24, 2000 at 1:00 p.m.
